RESUMEN

Hydrolytically stable materials exhibiting a wide range of programmable water sorption behaviors are crucial for on-demand water sorption systems. While notable advancements in employing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as promising water adsorbents have been made, developing a robust yet easily tailorable MOF scaffold for specific operational conditions remains a challenge. To address this demand, we employed a topology-guided linker installation strategy using NU-600, which is a zirconium-based MOF (Zr-MOF) that contains three vacant crystallographically defined coordination sites. Through a judicious selection of three N-heterocyclic auxiliary linkers of specific lengths, we installed them into designated sites, giving rise to six new MOFs bearing different combinations of linkers in predetermined positions. The resulting MOFs, denoted as NU-606 to NU-611, demonstrate enhanced structural stability against capillary force-driven channel collapse during water desorption due to the increased connectivity of the Zr6 clusters in the resulting MOFs. Furthermore, incorporating these auxiliary linkers with various hydrophilic N sites enables the systematic modulation of the pore-filling pressure from about 55% relative humidity (RH) for the parent NU-600 down to below 40% RH. This topology-driven linker installation strategy offers precise control of water sorption properties for MOFs, highlighting a facile route to design MOF adsorbents for use in water sorption applications.

RESUMEN

Brazing a SiO2f/SiO2 composite with metals is often faced with two problems: poor wettability with the brazing alloy and high residual stress in the joint. To overcome these problems, we report a combined method of selective etching and depositing reduced graphene oxide (rGO) on the surface of a SiO2f/SiO2 composite (3D-rGO-SiO2f/SiO2) to assist brazing with TC4. After the combined treatment, a "3D-rGO" buffer layer formed on the surface layer of the SiO2f/SiO2, and the contact angle was reduced from 130° to 38°, which meant the wettability of active brazing alloy on the surface of SiO2f/SiO2 was obviously improved. In addition, the "3D-rGO" buffer layer contributed to fully integrating the brazing alloy and SiO2f/SiO2; then, the infiltration of the brazing alloy into the surface layer of the SiO2f/SiO2 was enhanced and formed the reduced graphene oxide with a pinning structure in the three dimensional ("3D-pinning-rGO") structure. Moreover, the joining area of the brazing alloy and SiO2f/SiO2 was expanded and the mismatch degree between the SiO2f/SiO2 and TC4 was reduced, which was achieved by the "3D-pinning-rGO" structure. Furthermore, the concentration of the residual stress in the SiO2f/SiO2-TC4 joints transferred from the SiO2f/SiO2 to the braided quartz fibers, and the residual stress reduced from 142 MPa to 85 MPa. Furthermore, the 3D-pinning-rGO layer facilitated the transfer of heat between the substrates during the brazing process. Finally, the shear strength of the SiO2f/SiO2-TC4 joints increased from 12.5 MPa to 43.7 MPa by the selective etching and depositing rGO method.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: NUDT21 (Nudix Hydrolase 21) has been shown to play an essential role in multiple biological processes. Pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD) is one of the most fatal cancers in the world. However, the biological function of NUDT21 in PAAD remains rarely understood. The aim of this research was to identify the prediction value of NUDT21 in diagnosis, prognosis, immune infiltration, and signal pathway in PAAD. METHODS: Combined with the data in online databases, we analyzed the expression, immune infiltration, function enrichment, signal pathway, diagnosis, and prognosis of NUDT21 in PAAD. Then, the biological function of NUDT21 and its interacted protein in PAAD was identified through plasmid transduction system and protein mass spectrometry. Expression of NUDT21 was further verified in clinical specimens by immunofluorescence. RESULTS: We found that NUDT21 was upregulated in PAAD tissues and was significantly associated with the diagnosis and prognosis of pancreatic cancer through bioinformatic data analysis. We also found that overexpression of NUDT21 enhanced PAAD cells proliferation and migration, whereas knockdown NUDT21 restored the effects through in vitro experiment. Moreover, NDUFS2 was recognized as a potential target of NUDT21.We further verified that the expression of NDUFS2 was positively correlated with NUDT21 in PAAD clinical specimens. Mechanically, we found that NUDT21 stabilizes NDUFS2 and activates the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway. CONCLUSION: Our investigation reveals that NUDT21 is a previously unrecognized oncogenic factor in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment target of PAAD, and we suggest that NUDT21 might be a novel therapeutic target in PAAD.

RESUMEN

CALF-20, a Zn-triazolate-based metal-organic framework (MOF), is one of the most promising adsorbent materials for CO2 capture. However, competitive adsorption of water severely limits its performance when the relative humidity (RH) exceeds 40%, limiting the potential implementation of CALF-20 in practical settings where CO2 is saturated with moisture, such as postcombustion flue gas. In this work, three newly designed MOFs related to CALF-20, denoted as NU-220, CALF-20M-w, and CALF-20M-e that feature hydrophobic methyltriazolate linkers, are presented. Inclusion of methyl groups in the linker is proposed as a strategy to improve the uptake of CO2 in the presence of water. Notably, both CALF-20M-w and CALF-20M-e retain over 20% of their initial CO2 capture efficiency at 70% RH─a threshold at which CALF-20 shows negligible CO2 uptake. Grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations reveal that the methyl group hinders water network formation in the pores of CALF-20M-w and CALF-20M-e and enhances their CO2 selectivity over N2 in the presence of a high moisture content. Moreover, calculated radial distribution functions indicate that introducing the methyl group into the triazolate linker increases the distance between water molecules and Zn coordination bonds, offering insights into the origin of the enhanced moisture stability observed for CALF-20M-w and CALF-20M-e relative to CALF-20. Overall, this straightforward design strategy has afforded more robust sorbents that can potentially meet the challenge of effectively capturing CO2 in practical industrial applications.

RESUMEN

Carotenoids in goji (Lycium barbarum L.) have excellent health benefits, but the underlying mechanism of carotenoid synthesis and color formation in goji fruit ripening is still unclear. The present study uses transcriptomics and metabolomics to investigate carotenoid biosynthesis and color formation differences in N1 (red fruit) and N1Y (yellow fruit) at three stages of ripening. Twenty-seven carotenoids were identified in N1 and N1Y fruits during the M1, M2, and M3 periods, with the M2 and M3 periods being critical for the difference in carotenoid and color between N1 and N1Y fruit. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), gene trend analysis, and correlation analysis suggest that PSY1 and ZDS16 may be important players in the synthesis of carotenoids during goji fruit ripening. Meanwhile, 63 transcription factors (TFs) were identified related to goji fruit carotenoid biosynthesis. Among them, four TFs (CMB1-1, WRKY22-1, WRKY22-3, and RAP2-13-like) may have potential regulatory relationships with PSY1 and ZDS16. This work sheds light on the molecular network of carotenoid synthesis and explains the differences in carotenoid accumulation in different colored goji fruits.

RESUMEN

Background: We aimed to evaluate the function of the reconstructed anal canal in postoperative anorectal malformations (ARMs) patients through three dimension (3D) high-definition anorectal manometry. Methods: From January 2015 to December 2019, 3D manometry was performed as a postoperative functional assessment of patients with ARMs divided into age subgroups based on the time of manometry. Manometric parameters, such as the length of the anorectal high-pressure zone (HPZ-length), the mean resting and squeeze pressure of HPZ (HPZ-rest and HPZ-sqze), recto-anal inhibitory reflex (RAIR), and strength distribution of the anal canal, were collected and compared with age-matched controls. Their functional outcomes were analyzed with SPSS 23.0 software for statistical analysis. Results: 171 manometric measurements were performed on 142 postoperative patients (3 months∼15 years). The HPZ-rest in all patients was significantly lower than in age-matched controls (p < 0.05). HPZ-sqze was notably decreased in patients older than 4 years, whereas other age groups were comparable to controls (p < 0.05). The proportions of asymmetric strength distribution and negative RAIR were higher in ARMs patients. The type of anorectal malformations and lower HPZ-rest were the impact factors affecting postoperative functional outcomes. Conclusions: The majority of the ARMs patients had acceptable functional outcomes. 3D manometry can objectively assess the reconstructed anal canal function. The patients with fecal incontinence had a high proportion of extremely low HPZ-rest and HPZ-sqze, negative RAIR, and asymmetric strength distribution. The manometric details will help the clinicians explore the causes of defecation complications and guide further management.

RESUMEN

Importance: Neonatal appendicitis (NA) is a rare and potentially fatal neonatal disease. However, misdiagnosis is common owing to atypical clinical manifestations and non-specific laboratory tests. Objective: The aim of this study was to summarize the clinical characteristics, treatments, and prognoses of infants with NA. Methods: This retrospective analysis included 69 patients diagnosed with NA admitted to Beijing Children's Hospital between 1980 and 2019. The patients were divided into surgical and non-surgical groups based on whether surgery was performed. Their clinical characteristics were analyzed using the chi-square test, t-test, or the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: The study included 47 males and 22 females with NA. The primary symptoms were abdominal distension (n = 36, 52.2%), fever (n = 19, 27.5%), refusal to feed or decreased feeding (n = 16, 23.2%), and vomiting (n = 15, 21.7%). Sixty-five patients underwent abdominal ultrasound examinations; 43 had definite appendiceal abnormalities, 10 had right lower abdominal adhesive masses, and 14 had neonatal enterocolitis manifestations. Twenty-nine and 40 patients were in the surgical and non-surgical groups, respectively. No statistically significant differences were observed between the groups regarding sex, age at onset, birth weight, admission weight, or hospitalization time. However, parenteral nutrition was prolonged in the surgical group (P = 0.001). Additionally, two patients (2.9%) died. Interpretation: NA is a rare neonatal disease with atypical clinical manifestations. Abdominal ultrasonography may aid in the diagnosis. Similarly, appropriate treatment can improve the prognosis.

RESUMEN

Introduction: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most invasive cancers with a low 5-year survival rate. Pyroptosis, a specialized form of cell death, has shown its association with cancer progression. However, its role in the prognosis of HCC has not been fully understood. Methods: In our study, clinical information and mRNA expression for 1076 patients with HCC were obtained from the five public cohorts. Pyroptotic clusters were generated by unsupervised clustering based on 40 pyroptosis-related genes (PRGs) in the TCGA and ICGC cohort. A pyroptosis-related signature was constructed using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression according to differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of pyroptotic clusters. The signature was then tested in the validation cohorts (GES10142 and GSE14520) and subsequently validated in the CPTAC cohort (n=159) at both mRNA and protein levels. Response to sorafenib was explored in GSE109211. Results: Three clusters were identified based on the 40 PRGs in the TCGA cohort. A total of 24 genes were selected based on DEGs of the above three pyroptotic clusters to construct the pyroptotic risk score. Patients with the high-risk score showed shorter overall survival (OS) compared to those with the low-risk score in the training set (P<0.001; HR, 3.06; 95% CI, 2.22-4.24) and the test set (P=0.008; HR, 1.61; 95% CI, 1.13-2.28). The predictive ability of the risk score was further confirmed in the CPTAC cohort at both mRNAs (P<0.001; HR, 2.99; 95% CI, 1.67-5.36) and protein levels (P<0.001; HR, 2.97; 95% CI 1.66-5.31). The expression of the model genes was correlated with immune cell infiltration, angiogenesis-related genes, and sensitivity to antiangiogenic therapy (P<0.05). Discussion: In conclusion, we established a prognostic signature of 24 genes based on pyroptosis clusters for HCC patients, providing insight into the risk stratification of HCC.

RESUMEN

An otherwise healthy 4-month-old girl presented to the community health service center because her abdomen was distended. Over the next 2 months, the girl's abdomen gradually became more distended. Her examination was notable for abdominal distention with a large, mobile, non-tender abdominal mass. Abdominal ultrasound images and subsequently obtained CT images showed a large, circumscribed cystic and solid mass. This led to the presumptive diagnosis of teratoma of the mesentery. The mass was completely resected during a laparotomy. The pathology, along with the surgical findings and imaging, led to the final diagnosis.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to explore the clinical characteristics of septic shock in pediatric patients caused by acute appendicitis. METHODS: This case series included patients with septic shock caused by acute appendicitis in Beijing Children's Hospital between January 2015 and December 2020. RESULTS: Six patients with septic shock caused by acute appendicitis were enrolled. One patient was an infant with extremely low weight; 2 patients were obese. The diagnosis was delayed in 4 patients (the time from onset to diagnosis was 5 days in 3 children and 4 days in 1 child). All patients had abnormally raised inflammatory markers (C-reactive protein 119.17 ± 48.36 mg/L, procalcitonin 129.95 ± 86.09 ng/mL). Severe abdominal infection was found in all patients. There was appendix perforation in 4 patients and diffused peritonitis in 3 patients. Two patients had metabolic diseases (Wilson disease and decreased biotinase activity, respectively). Five patients had an appendectomy and 1 patient received conservative treatment. Five patients were discharged in stable condition, while 1 patient died. CONCLUSIONS: Children with delayed diagnosis, abnormal body weight, significant elevation in inflammatory markers, and underlying metabolic disease may be at greater risk of complicated appendicitis and septic shock. RESUMEN

The fine-tuning of metal-organic framework (MOF) pore structures is of critical importance in developing energy-efficient xenon/krypton (Xe/Kr) separation techniques. Capitalizing on reticular chemistry, we constructed a robust Y-based MOF (NU-1801) that is isoreticular to NPF-500 with a shortened organic ligand and a larger metal radius while maintaining the 4,8-connected flu topology, giving rise to a narrowed pore structure for the efficient separation of a Xe/Kr mixture. At 298 K and 1 bar, NU-1801 possessed a moderate Xe uptake of 2.79 mmol/g but exhibited a high Xe/Kr selectivity of 8.2 and an exceptional Xe/Kr uptake ratio of about 400%. NU-1801 could efficiently separate a Xe/Kr mixture (20:80, v/v), as validated by breakthrough experiments, due to the outstanding discrimination in van der Waals interactions of Xe and Kr toward the framework confirmed by grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations. This work highlights the importance of reticular chemistry in designing structure-specific MOFs for gas separation.

RESUMEN

Acid modulator has been the most widely employed ingredient for highly crystalline metal-organic framework (MOF) synthesis. However, the mechanistic understanding of thorium (Th)-based MOF crystallization remains a great challenge due to the intrinsic properties of fast olation and oxolation reactions of Th species in solution. Here, we constructed a series of Th-based MOFs by adding different modulators (formic acid, acetic acid, trifluoroacetic acid, and benzoic acid) to a synthetic solution along with tetratopic 1,3,5,7-adamantane tetracarboxylic acid (H4ATC), a three-dimensional (3D) ligand with a rigid aliphatic backbone. This work presents an in-depth study of the structure-modulator relationship between the H4ATC ligand and coordinating modulators in the Th-based MOF crystallization process. Crystal structures of these Th-based MOFs reveal that formic acid and acetic acid modulators can compete with the H4ATC ligand to form NU-52 and NU-54; these MOFs possess Th nodes linked by the corresponding modulator. Alternatively, usage of trifluoroacetic acid and benzoic acid modulators results in NU-53 and NU-55; these MOFs possess Th nodes coordinated by only the H4ATC ligand, regardless of the modulator amount. This work highlights that both the identity and amount of modulator play a crucial role in determining the resulting Th-based MOF structures when H4ATC is selected as the coordinated ligand.

RESUMEN

Cattle-yak, the hybrid offspring of yak and taurine cattle, exhibits male sterility with normal female fertility. Spermatogenesis is arrested in adult cattle-yak, and apoptosis is elevated in spermatogenic cells. Currently, the mechanisms underlying these defects remain elusive. Sertoli cells are the only somatic cells that directly interact with spermatogenic cells in the seminiferous tubules and play essential roles in spermatogenesis. The present study was designed to investigate gene expression signatures and potential roles of Sertoli cells in hybrid sterility in cattle-yak. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that the 5 mC and 5hmC signals in Sertoli cells of cattle-yaks were significantly different from those of age-matched yaks (P < 0.05). Transcriptome profiling of isolated Sertoli cells identified 402 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between cattle-yaks and yaks. Notably, niche factor glial cell derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) was upregulated, and genes involved in retinoic acid (RA) biogenesis were changed in Sertoli cells of cattle-yak, suggesting possible impairments of spermatogonial fate decisions. Further studies showed that the numbers of proliferative gonocytes and undifferentiated spermatogonia in cattle-yak were significantly higher than those in yak (P < 0.01). Exogenous GDNF significantly promoted the proliferation of UCHL1-positive spermatogonia in yaks. Therefore, we concluded that altered GDNF expression and RA signaling impacted the fate decisions of undifferentiated spermatogonia in cattle-yak. Together, these findings highlight the role of Sertoli cells and their derived factors in hybrid sterility.

RESUMEN

Reticular chemistry allows for the rational assembly of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with designed structures and desirable functionalities for advanced applications. However, it remains challenging to construct multi-component MOFs with unprecedented complexity and control through insertion of secondary or ternary linkers. Herein, we demonstrate that a Zr-based MOF, NU-600 with a (4,6)-connected she topology, has been judiciously selected to employ a linker installation strategy to precisely insert two linear linkers with different lengths into two crystallographically distinct pockets in a one-pot, de novo reaction. We reveal that the hydrolytic stability of these linker-inserted MOFs can be remarkably reinforced by increasing the Zr6 node connectivity, while maintaining comparable water uptake capacity and pore-filling pressure as the pristine NU-600. Furthermore, introducing hydrophilic -OH groups into the linear linker backbones to construct multivariate MOFs can effectively shift the pore-filling step to lower partial pressures. This methodology demonstrates a powerful strategy to reinforce the structural stability of other MOF frameworks by increasing the connectivity of metal nodes, capable of encouraging developments in fundamental sciences and practical applications.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Intraoperative cholangiography (IOC) has been the gold standard for diagnosing biliary atresia (BA). Our study attempted to diagnose BA using laparoscopic fluorescein cholangiography (LFC). METHODS: We retrospectively included 18 patients with preoperative suspected BA as the case group and 4 without extrahepatic biliary obstruction requiring laparoscopic surgery as the control group. All patients received indocyanine green (ICG) intravenously at 0.05 mg/Kg. The first 6 patients in the case group underwent IOC and LFC simultaneously, and the control group completed LFC. The imaging characteristics of LFC were recorded and summarized by the conventional and fluorescence mode of the endoscopic fluorescence imaging system (DPM-ENDOCAM-03). On this basis, 12 patients in the case group were diagnosed as BA according to LFC without IOC, and all 18 patients completed open Kasai surgery to confirm the diagnosis. RESULTS: Laparoscopic fluorescence mode in BA detected liver fluorescence but no visualization of the extrahepatic bile ducts. However, the extrahepatic bile ducts in the control group were visible. Based on the imaging characteristics summarized from the LFC of the first 6 cases with BA in the case group, the remaining 12 cases who only underwent LFC were also successfully diagnosed with BA. Furthermore, the formation of hepatic hilar fibrous mass was found in all the patients during the open Kasai procedure, which confirmed the BA diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS: LFC appears as a specific pattern in BA and may be used for intraoperative diagnosis of BA. It has the advantages of simplicity, short time-consuming, and no radiation damage.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Alimentary tract duplication involving the rectum (ATD-R) is rare. The purpose of the study was to describe the features of pediatric ATD-R patients and propose a surgical management strategy. METHODS: Nine consecutive children operated on for ATD-R at a tertiary center for pediatrics from January 2010 to June 2021 were retrospectively reviewed and followed up. Eighty-six children with the same diagnosis from the literature were reviewed to assist the investigation. Classifications of ATD-R consisted of cystic, tubular, and diverticular. RESULTS: Surgical treatment and histopathological examination identified six females and three males with ATD-R. Initial clinical symptoms included perianal lesions, abnormal discharge, and anorectal malformation (ARM). Apart from one tubular ATD-R patient with cloaca malformation, the other eight patients had normal-developed anorectum. Complete or partial lesion resection maintaining the integrity of the proper colorectum was a principle of surgery. Six patients were followed up for a median time of 71 (range 12-121) months with good prognoses. A surgical management strategy of ATD-R in children was proposed. CONCLUSIONS: ATD-R commonly occurred concurrently with normal-developed anorectum, seldom combined with ARM. ATD-R should be considered as a differential diagnosis in anorectal symptoms. The timely and appropriate operation was curative.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The high incidence of gallstone recurrence was a major concern for laparoscopic gallbladder-preserving surgery. This study aimed to investigate the risk factors for gallstone recurrence after gallbladder-preserving surgery and to establish an individualized nomogram model to predict the risk of gallstone recurrence. METHODS: The clinicopathological and follow-up data of 183 patients who were initially diagnosed with gallstones and treated with gallbladder-preserving surgery at our hospital from January 2012 to January 2019 were retrospectively collected. The independent predictive factors for gallstone recurrence following gallbladder-preserving surgery were identified by multivariate logistic regression analysis. A nomogram model for the prediction of gallstone recurrence was constructed based on the selected variables. The C-index, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and calibration curve were used to evaluate the predictive power of the nomogram model for gallstone recurrence. RESULTS: During the follow-up period, a total of 65 patients experienced gallstone recurrence, and the recurrence rate was 35.5%. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that the course of gallstones > 2 years [odds ratio (OR) = 2.567, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.270-5.187, P = 0.009], symptomatic gallstones (OR = 2.589, 95% CI: 1.059-6.329, P = 0.037), multiple gallstones (OR = 2.436, 95% CI: 1.133-5.237, P = 0.023), history of acute cholecystitis (OR = 2.778, 95% CI: 1.178-6.549, P = 0.020) and a greasy diet (OR = 2.319, 95% CI: 1.186-4.535, P = 0.014) were independent risk factors for gallstone recurrence after gallbladder-preserving surgery. A nomogram model for predicting the recurrence of gallstones was established based on the above five variables. The results showed that the C-index of the nomogram model was 0.692, suggesting it was valuable to predict gallstone recurrence. Moreover, the calibration curve showed good consistency between the predicted probability and actual probability. CONCLUSIONS: The nomogram model for the prediction of gallstone recurrence might help clinicians develop a proper treatment strategy for patients with gallstones. Gallbladder-preserving surgery should be cautiously considered for patients with high recurrence risks.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of transanal endorectal pull-through (TEPT) and the long-term outcomes in newborns with Hirschsprung disease (HD). METHODS: A total of 229 newborns with HD underwent one-stage TEPT between 2007 and 2020, and the diagnoses were confirmed by rectal biopsy. The perioperative clinical course for all patients was reviewed, and the postoperative short- and long-term outcomes were assessed. RESULTS: A total of 229 neonates (187 male and 42 female) had a median age at TEPT of 17 days (range 6-28 days). Sixty-eight patients (29.7%) underwent TEPT combined with an abdominal approach or laparoscopy. Early postoperative complications (using the Clavien-Dindo grading system) were documented in 36 patients (15.7%), and late postoperative complications were noted in 9 patients (3.9%). The follow-up period in the remaining 165 children ranged from 1.2 to 14.0 years (median 5.0 years). A total of 106 of the patients older than four years old took part in an interview about bowel function, and 85 patients (80.2%) had bowel function scores (BFS) ≥ 18. CONCLUSION: TEPT is effective and safe for HD in the neonatal period and presents with a low rate of complications and an acceptable outcome.

RESUMEN

It was acknowledged long ago that microorganisms have played critical roles in animal evolution. Tibetan wild asses (TWA, Equus kiang) are the only wild perissodactyls on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) and the first national protected animals; however, knowledge about the relationships between their gut microbiota and the host's adaptability remains poorly understood. Herein, 16S rRNA and meta-genomic sequencing approaches were employed to investigate the gut microbiota-host associations in TWA and were compared against those of the co-resident livestock of yak (Bos grunnies) and Tibetan sheep (Ovis aries). Results revealed that the gut microbiota of yak and Tibetan sheep underwent convergent evolution. By contrast, the intestinal microflora of TWA diverged in a direction enabling the host to subsist on sparse and low-quality forage. Meanwhile, high microbial diversity (Shannon and Chao1 indices), cellulolytic activity, and abundant indicator species such as Spirochaetes, Bacteroidetes, Prevotella_1, and Treponema_2 supported forage digestion and short-chain fatty acid production in the gut of TWA. Meanwhile, the enterotype identification analysis showed that TWA shifted their enterotype in response to low-quality forage for a better utilization of forage nitrogen and short-chain fatty acid production. Metagenomic analysis revealed that plant biomass degrading microbial consortia, genes, and enzymes like the cellulolytic strains (Prevotella ruminicola, Ruminococcus flavefaciens, Ruminococcus albus, Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens, and Ruminobacter amylophilus), as well as carbohydrate metabolism genes (GH43, GH3, GH31, GH5, and GH10) and enzymes (ß-glucosidase, xylanase, and ß-xylosidase, etc.) had a significantly higher enrichment in TWA. Our results indicate that gut microbiota can improve the adaptability of TWA through plant biomass degradation and energy maintenance by the functions of gut microbiota in the face of nutritional deficiencies and also provide a strong rationale for understanding the roles of gut microbiota in the adaptation of QTP wildlife when facing harsh feeding environments.
